Point Buchon Trail

Point Buchon This spectacular stretch of coastline in San Luis Obispo County is an excellent place to spot numerous bird species including golden eagles, as well as other wildlife and wildflowers. The trail is 6.6 miles round trip, with a shorter loop trail option of just over one mile. Watch out for a dramatic sink hole within the first mile.

This section of the California Coastal Trail is adjacent to the Point Buchon State Marine Reserve and Montaña de Oro State Park. Visitors to the trail should park in Montaña de Oro State Park's Coon Creek parking lot.

Point Buchon is open Thursday through Monday and is limited to 275 hikers a day. Visitors must sign a waiver at a trailhead check-in station to access the trail. Learn more about this special place by watching KCET's California Coastal Trail video:
