- Animal Exploration
Get your hands wet in this 30-minute, educator-led animal touch experience. After a brief introduction, students will explore the unique characteristics of our classroom tidepool animals and even have a chance to touch them.

- Friends in the Sea, Are You Like Me?
Follow Gracie, a baby gray whale, in search of animals that are just like her. Along the way, she will discover that just because they live underwater, not all ocean animals look or sound the same. On this learning adventure, students will use sound, movement and observations to discover some of the animals that make the ocean their home.

- Under the Sea Shapes
The ocean is full of incredible animals and vibrant colors! In this educator-led program, children will find shapes and colors that are hiding in sharks, sea anemones, and many more ocean creatures! Discover the animals that live above and below the water’s surface by participating in this exciting program designed especially for preschool and daycare groups.

K-2 Grade Programs
- Coral Reef Critters
Coral reefs are amazing places! Join us as we explore the colorful and exciting world of coral reefs. In this hands-on and interactive class, students will actually become reef animals and learn about what it takes to survive among the corals. Colorful butterflyfish, intriguing sea horses, and fish that poop sand are just a few of the critters we will investigate in the coral reef.

- Rumbly Tumbly Tidepools
Life in the tidepool can be tough! Join us as we build a tidepool and discover just how many spineless creatures call the tidepool their home. From tubefeet to tentacles, come and learn how these creatures make a living in the rumbly tumbly tide pools.

- Sharky’s Adventure
Sharks are cool! And the more you know about them, the more amazing they are. Did you know that sharks come in all shapes and sizes and some can be as big as a city bus? Join Sharky as he goes on an adventure to learn what sharks eat, how they find their food and what their skin feels like in this exciting class. As Sharky explores the world of sharks, students will gain a better appreciation for these magnificent predators and even get a chance to touch one!

- Scales to Fish Tails
Did you know that a jellyfish is not a fish? Did you know that some male fish play the role of mom? Discover just how fishy living in water can be as we explore these fascinating finned creatures. Through a variety of fintastic hands on activities and games, participants will dive into the watery world of fish and learn what a fish is, where fish live and how fish adapt to their unique environments.

- Wigglie Squigglies
They may be spineless, but there is power in numbers! Most animals in the ocean do not have backbones. Join us as we examine jiggling jellies, spiny sea stars, and the outrageous eight- legged octopus, just a few of the many invertebrates that call the Pacific home. By taking part in exciting activities, students will discover how some of these spineless creatures adapt to their watery world.

- The Story of Splashy
Watch out! The ocean is full of hungry creatures, including Snaggletooth, the hungriest of them all. Help our imaginary friend Splashy protect herself from Snaggletooth by changing her shape, size and color and giving her all sorts of special adaptations. Meet real ocean animals that use the same adaptations you give Splashy in this interactive program.

- Ocean Rangers: Marine Mammal Mystery (Grades 1-2)
Join training officer Sergeant Sargo for the adventure of a lifetime. After learning about marine mammals, students are enlisted by the Sergeant to track a mysterious group of marine mammals along their migration route. Help Sergeant Sargo discover what kinds of mammals make up this strange group of animals and why they are heading down the coast.

Grades 3-5
- Kelp Forest Explorers
Who has ever heard of a fish swimming through a forest? Towering above the ocean floor off of our California coast, tall majestic kelp forests grow up to 75 meters (250 feet). These giant forests support and protect a wide variety of life that call the kelp their home. Students will explore how kelp forests play an important role in the California marine environment by participating in fascinating experiments and games.

- Flippers, Fins and Flukes
Welcome to the world of some of the largest creatures to ever inhabit the earth. From the powerful orca to the massive blue whale, this diverse group of marine mammals has fascinated many for centuries. Students will delve into the realm of cetaceans as they discover some of the unique adaptations and behaviors of dolphins and whales through a variety of activities and games.

- Aliens from Inner Space
Did you know that when you go for an ocean swim you are entering a world inhabited by microscopic creatures? Join us as we discover the fascinating world of plankton. Under a microscope these creatures can look like aliens, but through hands-on activities and microscope discovery we will reveal the importance of this alien world to your students as they delve into a freshly caught sample of plankton.

- Superheroes of the Sea
Learn the fascinating adaptations of the superheroes of the sea! In this class students will discover which animals are the fastest, largest, smallest and most endangered in the ocean. Students will participate in an interactive game full of amazing animals and explore the watery world full of invertebrates, bony fish, whales, and sharks!

- FBI Investigates Freaky Fish
Your mission: To investigate the variety of fishes that have infiltrated the Pacific and report back to headquarters. Join the FBI (Fish Bureau of Investigation) as they discover the diversity and range of Pacific Ocean fish. After the program, head out into the Aquarium to continue your search until you find something “fishy!”

- Ocean Rangers: Shark Mythbusters!
Is it safe to go back in the water? Sergeant Sargo returns for another Ocean Ranger adventure in order to answer that very question! This time, students will follow sharks into their ocean habitat to learn the truths and dispel the myths surrounding these incredible predators. Through investigation, problem solving and interviews with experts, the students will help to identify the mystery shark and find out what we can do to protect these creatures.

- Predator!
Sharks. Sea lions. Sea stars. What do all of these animals have in common? They are all predators! Dive headfirst into the world of predators in this interactive program. Students will go into a frenzy touching a real shark as they dispel some of the myths of this world-famous predator. Join us for some hands-on bravery as we take a bite out of feeding strategies of ocean animals.

Utilizing the Aquarium’s new interactive Watershed Classroom and Exhibit, students will be led on a journey through their watershed from the mountains to the coastal ocean. Along the way participants will learn about the importance of ground water in the hydrologic cycle and in our drinking water supply. By exploring the link between watersheds, ground water and pollution, students will learn how they are part of the water cycle and discover how they can help to change their environment for the better. It All Flows to Me was developed with the generous support of the Water Replenishment District of Southern California.

- Spectacular Sharks
Sharks are one of the most feared and misunderstood ocean predators. In this class we will explore these magnificent animals and learn about their many adaptations. Join us as we dispel myths and discover what makes sharks one of the top predators in the ocean. From their six amazing senses to hundreds of sharp teeth, there is much to be learned! Delve into the world of sharks with this hands-on and interactive program.

- Mysteries of the Deep
Prepare yourself for one of the most spectacular light shows on earth. Don’t look up into the night sky; look down to the depths of the dark, deep sea. Despite the crushing pressure, freezing temperatures, and endless darkness, the deep sea is full of life, enough to rival the diversity of a rain forest! Ranging from the ferocious teeth of the viper eel to the eerie glow of the bioluminescent flashlight fish, this class will fascinate you as wee unlock the mysteries of the deep.

- Fishial Pursuit
Sharks may lose 30,000 teeth in a lifetime! A blue whale can have a tongue as big as an elephant! Dispelling myths and learning cool and interesting facts is the name of the game. Join us for an interactive educational theater program where the audience members are the game show contestants and the questions are all washed up.

Grades 9-12
- Fishing for Change
Through an activity that simulates industrial fishing practices, groups of students will act as a fleet of fishing vessels working together to gain the best catch possible and be able to define what “best catch” should mean. Students will experiment with different fishing techniques to determine the best means of avoiding bycatch, overfishing and environmental degradation while maximizing sustainability. Analysis of their results will lead students in a discussion of current fishing methods, environmental concerns and the tragedy of the commons to gain an increased awareness of human impacts.

- A Look Inside
How does a squid swim? How does a fish breathe underwater? The answers to these and more questions can be found with a closer look inside. Choose from a squid or fish and make your first incision into the amazing world of aquatic anatomy. Your students will discover the ins and outs to these interesting animals in this hands-on dissection.

- Aquacology
Water is water, or is it? In this class your students will explore the world of aquariums and aquarium filtration. By building their own aquarium systems complete with filtration, students will discover the importance of water quality and what it takes to keep water suitable to support life. Protein skimmers, bio-towers, UV sterilizers and other state of the art aquarium filtration components will be explored in this interactive class.

- AP Biology Lab: Dissolved Oxygen
Oxygen is one of the most essential components for life on our planet. However, oxygen is not always readily available to animals and plants in the ocean. Through this hands-on laboratory session, students will develop and test a hypothesis regarding dissolved oxygen levels in the harbor adjacent to the Aquarium. Students will collect water samples at varying depths and analyze them for dissolved oxygen content. A class discussion will determine whether or not the results correspond to their hypothesis and why.

- AP Environmental Science Laboratory: Finding a Balance
One of the toughest challenges facing any country, state, or even business is to find a balance between “economy” and “environment”. In this hands-on laboratory, students will take the role of environmental scientists by collecting data from the Port of Long Beach using oceanographic equipment such as sediment grabs, Secchi disks, plankton nets, and water samplers. Students will also analyze a real life example of a proposed port development and make decisions on how to balance the resulting environmental and economic impacts.

Sleepovers
All sleepover programs include a pizza dinner, cereal breakfast, and an AOP Sleepover t-shirt. Programs run from 5:30pm to 7am. A minimum of 20 students is required.
- Long Beach Marine Institute Sleepover
New overnight program aboard the RV Conqueror!
This program includes a self-guided tour of the Aquarium of the Pacific during aquarium hours and your choice of shark dissection, squid dissection, plankton, water chemistry or watershed program. Program wraps up with a breakfast inside the aquarium. Program begins at 3:30 pm and ends at 7:00 am* the next morning. Available Monday through Sundays. *Optional trawl and sediment grab in the Long Beach Harbor after breakfast for additional charge.
- Predator, Prey, and Pajamas (Grades 3-6)
Discover some extraordinary inhabitants of the deep with their highly developed senses, amazing adaptations, and fascinating ways of tracking down their next meal. This unique program helps you take a bite out of some predator myths as we investigate the creatures of the deep blue sea.

- Spotlight on Sharks! (Grades 3-6)
Sink your teeth into a nocturnal adventure as we explore the mystifying world of sharks and learn what makes them such amazing predators. Our shark experts will help dispel some of the myths that have given sharks such a bad reputation and reveal their role in the food web. After a night of investigation students will come away with a greater appreciation for sharks and the adaptations that have made them an apex predator.

- Crazy Creatures From Dusk 'til Dawn (Grades 3-6)
From flukes to feathers, scales and scutes, and beaks to bones, diversity abounds beneath the sea. Participants will learn about the different types of animals (invertebrates, fish, sharks, reptiles, birds, and mammals) that inhabit the big blue. We will explore animal adaptations from tiny boneless wonders to the top of the food chain while learning about the unique relationships and habitats of these ocean critters.

- Oceans of Opportunity (Grades 6-8)
So what do you want to be when you grow up? How about a job feeding otters or scuba diving for research? Find out what it takes to enter the field of marine biology, through hands-on activities and behind-the-scenes observations at the Aquarium.
- The Reef that Never Sleeps (Grades 6-8)
By day, the warm sun illuminates flashes of color, crowded trafficways, and thousands of tenants living in the cramped quarters of the coral reef. But what happens as the sun goes down? Find out who is lurking past bedtime as we explore some of the ocean’s best nightlife. From the colorful colorful coral reef to the abyssal trenches of the deep ocean, your students will discover ingenious ways animals interact in the dark.

Aquarium on Wheels
Aquaium educators come to you, bringing a mobile tide pool exhibit. Auditorium programs for 50-150 students, classroom programs for 15-40 students.
- Tidepool Display (Grades PreK-12)
Our Aquarium educators come to your school bringing sharks, sea stars, sea anemones, and other California marine animals in this dynamic mobile tidepool exhibit. Feel a spiny sea star, touch a slippery sea cucumber, and experience the rough texture of a shark's skin. Dedicated to developing an appreciation for the wonders of the ocean environment, Aquarium on Wheels delivers a memorable experience for all!

Travel the globe with an Aquarium educator to earn your passport to the Pacific! Aquarium on Wheels invites your students to participate in an interactive presentation to learn about ocean inhabitants and their unique adaptations for survival in a watery world. Each educator-led program will be followed by a hands-on opportunity to touch local marine life.

- Amazing Animal Adaptations (Grades K-2 Classroom Program)
What do blubber, flukes, and sharp shark teeth all have in common? They are all amazing animal adaptations! Join us as we discover the wonderful world of animal adaptations through demonstrations and hands-on experiences with live animals. Your students will explore fascinating marine creatures through this fun and educational class. This educator-led program will be followed by a hands-on opportunity to touch local marine life.

- Predators on the Prowl (Grades 3-5 Classroom Program)
The ocean is full of amazing predators. From the 110-foot long blue whale to the 3-inch long goby, predators can be found in all shapes and sizes. Big or small, predators are an important part of the marine ecosystem. In this class, your students will delve into the world of ocean predators while discovering facts and dispelling myths. Sharks, whales, seals, and otters are just some of the predators that your students will discover in this exploratory class. This educator-led program will be followed by a hands-on opportunity to touch local marine life.

- Catch a Wave (Grades 3-5 Auditorium Program)
Paddle out and Catch a Wave with our new Aquarium on Wheels auditorium program. Join an Aquarium educator’s wacky cousin Joey from the Midwest and wave expert Sandy C. Shore as they explore the ins and outs of waves. Through this engaging program students will learn about the science of waves and get hands on with local marine animals that are able to survive the crashing surf. They will feel a spiny sea star, touch a slippery sea cucumber or feel the rough textured skin of a shark. Dedicated to develop an appreciation for the wonders of the ocean environment, Aquarium on Wheels will deliver a memorable experience for all!

- Food Web Frenzy (Grades 6-8 Classroom Program)
The ocean’s inhabitants are all interconnected in a web of energy. Those that eat are also eaten! Whether plankton or sharks, marine organisms play an essential role in this web of life. Join us as we learn the importance of an animal’s position in the ocean’s food web through interactive and exploratory class time. This educator-led program will be followed by a hands-on opportunity to touch local marine life.
