If volunteers are the heart
and soul of Coastal Cleanup Day, then sponsors are the backbone of the event. Lending strength
and stability to the Coastal Cleanup Day Program, sponsors provide financial and promotional
support and committed volunteers, which has allowed Coastal Cleanup Day to gain tremendous
momentum throughout the state over the past 24 years. The sponsors listed below are crucial
partners in helping to raise awareness and educate Californians about the need for healthy
marine ecosystems. We work side by side in our ongoing efforts to find solutions to marine
pollution.
As we approach the 24th Annual California Coastal Cleanup Day on Saturday September
20th, we send great thanks to our Presenting Sponsor, Whole Foods Market Northern California, and a new lead sponsor,
CG Roxane LLC producers of Crystal Geyser Alpine Spring Water, and to Oracle, who has been a pillar of support for over a decade. Last year, our
first with Whole Foods Market as Presenting Sponsor, we increased our volunteer support by over
20 percent, topping 61,000 volunteers who picked up almost a million pounds of debris from 1,100
miles of coastline, and another 1,000 miles of bay, creek, river, and lake shorelines around
California. Now on to year two of Whole Foods Market’s participation, and with the addition of
Crystal Geyser, we look forward to another fantastic gathering of folks up and down our coast on
September 20th.

Whole Foods Market Northern California
is returning for the second year as our Presenting Sponsor. With Whole Foods Market Northern California as a
member of our team, providing unprecedented exposure in more than 40 Whole Foods Markets
from May through September throughout the state, we were able to increase volunteer
participation over 20 percent to over 61,000 volunteers. An outstanding partner to the
Coastal Cleanup Day Program, Whole Foods Market Northern California put forth a huge commitment in both
funding and staff involvement, allowing for tremendous expansion of the Cleanup and
real results in the health and well being of our shorelines. This unprecedented
collaboration has given us a unique opportunity to create awareness and promote the event
among a receptive audience in Whole Foods Markets throughout Northern California.
On Thursday, September 25th, Whole Foods Market Northern California will donate five percent of the day’s
net sales to California Coastal Cleanup Day. In addition, working with Whole Foods Market Northern California
provides the added opportunity to also work with their vendors to further publicize the
event. A perfect example is the “neckers” promoting Coastal Cleanup Day that Crystal Geyser
will add to their products in Whole Foods Markets.
“The partnership between Whole Foods Market and the California Coastal Cleanup Day Program
speaks well to one of our company’s Core Values: Caring About Our Communities and Our
Environment. We are excited to be working side by side with our customers and vendor
partners on this project to protect our shorelines and give back to the environment as
a whole. In 2007, we were thrilled to have raised $85,000 to benefit this important
environmental cause and look forward to topping that number this September,” says Danny
Olivas, executive marketing coordinator for Whole Foods Market, Northern California Region.
Whole Foods Market believes companies, like individuals, must assume their share of
responsibility as tenants of Planet Earth, be actively involved in the local communities
in which they have roots and engage in active environmental stewardship so that the earth
continues to flourish for generations to come. Working together, we have the opportunity
to raise awareness, galvanize a huge customer base, and work with team members and customers
to identify and build out many new sites.
