WCA is a California State Parks cooperating association and functions under the Department's policies for such organizations. Through the operation of the Rancho Del Oso Nature and History Center, interprets and preserves the resources of the Waddell Valley section of Big Basin Redwoods State Park.

•  Rancho del Oso Nature and History Center: An application brochure describing the history and purpose of RDO.
•  Almost a Hundred Years: A 264-page autobiography by Hulda Hoover McLean (Vice President of WCA), whose father and uncle were Theodore J. Hoover, first Dean of Engineering at Stanford, and President Herbert C. Hoover.

Volunteer Opportunities

  Description:
Greet visitors to the Center, provide information, run the Gift Shop, and hand out newsletters and membership applications
  When Needed:
Saturday and Sunday, from noon to 4pm, year-round with most activity during the summer months
  Qualifications:
Interested in the Center, good at meeting the public, pleasant appearance, high school education, initiative, responsible, cooperative and a good team player
  Commitment Required:
No definite time commitment, but usually one or two days a month
  Application/Training:
Apply to the Resident Naturalist at the Nature Center
Some training in small groups, some individual, mostly on the job
