Education Programs:
"An Introduction to California’s Maritime History" - supports history/social science curriculum for 4th grade
"An Introduction to American Maritime History" - history/social science curriculum for 5th grade
"Ancient and Medieval maritime history" - 6th and 7th grade students
"Appreciating Maritime Art" - for middle and high school students
"Marine Science" - marine biology for all grades, conducted by a naturalist in partnership with the Channel Islands Marine Floating Lab
"All About Whales" - classroom and whale watching for all ages with the Marine Floating Lab
"At Sea Education" - Ages 10 to 18. Three day sailing
expeditions on and around the Channel Islands for up to 30 students and chaperones
as working crew on a square-rigged wooden sailing vessel. Conducted onboard various
Southern California vessels, all USCG "R" rated as Sailing School Vessels, typically
the Irving Johnson, Exy Johnson, or Tole Mour. Hones leadership and teamwork
skills while applying math, marine biology, and science in a real-world environment.
Approximately $300 per person per voyage; matching funds and scholarships available
based on need.
