Mission:
STAR ECO Station is a 501c3 charitable non-profit environmental science education and exotic wildlife rescue center dedicated to the mission of “Preservation Through Education”. The STAR ECO Station serves as a venue that connects visitors with projects and activities to become part of social change, creating a new breed of environmental heroes! The STAR ECO Station offers the most innovative, interactive and inspiring environmental science education programs for our students and the community, as well as educational outreach programs in over 40 California school districts. In collaboration with environmental and government agencies, the STAR ECO Station provides rescue and rehabilitation for illegal, abandoned or abused exotic wildlife at our 18,000 square-foot facility in Culver City, California and at our 12,000 square-foot facility in Rocklin, California. Through interactive tours, assemblies, classroom instruction, field trips, birthday parties and superb community events, the STAR ECO Station annually serves over one million learners of all ages! STAR Education was selected by the White House and the U.S. Department of Education as a “Model Program” for the United States.

Speaker/Lecture Series:
STAR ECO Station naturalists are professional educators and can lecture and speak on a wide variety of environmental science topics.

Educational Resources:
TOURS – ECO Station naturalist-guided tours provide a hands-on learning experience with exotic wildlife. Visitors experience interactive lessons of ecology and environmentalism on a wild and unforgettable encounter with rescued tropical birds, exotic reptiles, and ocean life in a tropical jungle setting.

FIELD TRIPS – A field trip to the STAR ECO Station engages students and fulfills California State Science Standards. A two-hour guided tour includes exciting hands-on experiences with our exotic rescued wildlife. Age-appropriate lessons may also cover many other subjects including ecology, social studies, art, economics and the responsibilities of pet ownership. Students are equipped with the knowledge to help protect their environment and wildlife.

CAMPS- At ECO Station summer camps, children have the opportunity to become part of the STAR ECO Station’s World Famous Exotic Wildlife Rescue Team! Every day is an adventure with our tropical birds, and exotic reptiles, and every lesson brings a unique opportunity to explore important environmental issues.

ASSEMBLIES, CLASS VISITS & WEEKLY ENRICHMENT CLASSES – STAR ECO Station brings exotic rescued wildlife and exciting new curricula to your students through interactive and entertaining assemblies (41-300 students), classroom presentations (up to 40 students) and weekly enrichment classes (8-10 week sessions available). All programs are aligned to California State Science Standards.

SPECIAL EVENTS – Birthday parties, seminars, workshops, fundraisers, socials and more! Explore our Environmental Village, Party in the Galleria del Mundo! Or take over the entire STAR ECO Station for a private special occasion! STR ECO Station has several party packages to help make your special event unforgettable!

COMMUNITY EVENTS – STAR ECO Station hosts a variety of environmental & cultural community events throughout the year, including: Children’s Earth Day, DinoFaire, Creepy Crawly Creature Feature, Children’s World Ocean Day and more. Additionally we offer mobile walk-through exhibits on the Rainforest, IQ-GO! Science, Health and Fitness, Astronomy, and so much more! Our events raise community awareness of the most pressing environmental issues and provide families with a unique meeting place to celebrate their eco-enthusiasm!

In-service Training:
Our volunteers are required to attend one two-hour orientation and are continually trained. Naturalists are trained in both the Rocklin and Culver City locations by highly qualified staff.

Volunteer Opportunities

  Program:
Animal Enrichment, Education, Docent
  Description:
Animal Enrichment - Cleans, prepares food, bird enrichment through cages, and other engaging activities.
Education – Educates public at special events on and off site.
Docent – Leads tours; must have 100+ hours of volunteer experience in Animal Enrichment and Education prior to being promoted to Docent.

  Qualifications:
Ages 14 and older, commitment to learn, serve, and help make the world a better place.
  Commitment Required:
10 + hours a month is preferred.
