Mission:
The Bay Trail is a 500-mile continuous shoreline path that will encircle San Francisco Bay providing recreation, alternative transportation and wildlife viewing opportunities. It will connect the shorelines of all nine counties in the Bay Area and 47 of its cities. About 300 miles of the Bay Trail are now open.

Education Programs:

  • Bay Trail Maps – Six full-color trail maps, which can be purchased individually or in a packet, or viewed on the Bay Trail website.
  • San Francisco Bay Shoreline Guide – This is a beautifully illustrated guide produced by the State Coastal Conservancy, including Bay Trail route maps, detailed information on accessing the trail, and endless historical and ecological information for more than 170 shoreline sites.
  • The Bay Trail Plan: A Recreational Ring Around San Francisco Bay – The Bay Trail Plan, adopted by the Association of Bay Area Governments (ABAG) in 1989, includes a proposed alignment; a set of policies to guide the future selection, design and implementation of routes; and strategies for implementing and financing the trail.
  • The Bay Trail Rider Newsletter - Highlights the progress and development of the Bay Trail.
  • Bay Trail Display - The Bay Trail display includes maps, photos, fact sheets, and other educational materials for use at fairs, exhibits, conferences, and other events.
  • Bay Trail Website – Includes detailed information and news about the Bay Trail, maps and virtual tours, grant projects, publications available for download, the Bay Trail Store, and an extensive set of related links.
