Mission:
San Diego Coastkeeper protects the region’s bays, beaches, watersheds and ocean for the people and wildlife that depend on them. We balance community outreach, education, and advocacy to promote stewardship of clean water and a healthy coastal ecosystem.

Coastkeeper is a locally-based non-profit organization and is San Diego’s official agency of the international Waterkeeper Alliance, which works to protect the world’s waterways.

Education Programs:
Project SWELL: a K through 12 environmental curricula
Citizen water monitoring: We take volunteers of all ages and train them to do water sampling and basic water quality analysis. More advanced volunteers may participate in project-related internships. More intensive biological tasks such as helping with our kelp monitoring and restoration project are available for certified scuba divers.

Volunteer Opportunities

  Program:
Beach Clean Ups, Water Monitoring, Kelp Monitoring
  Description:
We do monthly beach clean-ups at locations throughout the county. We offer training on water quality monitoring and sampling for our citizen water monitors who go out monthly to specific sites throughout San Diego County to establish baseline data as well as improve water quality knowledge for all interested parties.

Age 12 and over, willingness to commit to water monitoring program
