Ocean Connectors: Pro Peninsula, in collaboration with the South Bay Power Plant and researchers from National Marine Fisheries Service, gives local schoolchildren in San Diego the opportunity to witness and learn about sea turtle research. After giving them a presentation on sea turtle biology and conservation, we take these students out to the bay to see real live sea turtles. During the months when there isn’t any active research, we continue to give classroom presentations, and provide schoolchildren the opportunity to exchange letters about conservation with their counterparts in the city of La Paz in Southern Baja California in Mexico. We show these youngsters that they can be true Ocean Connectors, just like the sea turtles that they are now helping to protect.
