Education Programs:
The WHALES program is a yearlong curriculum that incorporates scientific research, community action projects, and career development. WHALES provides buses, fees, and equipment to low-income schools for activities such as water quality monitoring, habitat restoration, beach cleanups and marine life surveys. During the course of the program, students are required to research current topics, conduct field experiments, compare results, and present multi-media projects to local officials. The WHALES program consists of six monthly field outings and final presentation day; and schools may opt to participate in any number of modules depending on their needs. Each WHALES module includes a homework assignment, an in-class activity, and a 4-5 hour field project. For our participating schools, we provide teacher and student handbooks. All the materials are available on our website.
