Speaker/Lecture Series:
A staff member of Ocean Futures Society will come to the school/classroom to do multimedia presentations on our AMBASSADORS OF THE ENVIRONMENT Program and many related ocean topics.

Education Programs:
Ambassadors of the Environment program - outdoor field education program on Catalina Island, Marin Headlands, Kona, Hawaii, El Capitan Canyon Ranch in Santa Barbara, CA. Program focuses on learning the principles of ecology and how they function, creating a sustainable system. Then, students apply those lessons (from kelp forest, coral reef, or redwood ecosystems) to the human community, focusing on how we can live more sustainably. Students are encouraged to make a commitment to themsleves to become "Ambassadors of the Environment" and get involved in the search for sustainability.

Available for 4th-12th graders, teachers, and family camp programs, depending on site. Materials offered are website (www.aote.org), Coral Reef CD-ROM, and a series of 52 5-minute videos on the marine environment.

Our Ambassadors of the Environment Program allows for us to teach/train personnel from private or public sectors, volunteers, and the general public. We have a 2-Day, 3-Day, or 4-Day program where we take groups to our site at El Capitan Canyon for a unique comprehensive program on environmental education for sustainable living.

Volunteer Opportunities

  Program:
Naturalist
  Description:
Volunteers for our Naturalist positions are trained by Ocean Futures Society staff and are qualified to lead 4-12th graders in our Ambassadors of the Environment Program (AOTE) at El Capitan Canyon. As an AOTE Naturalist you will teach components of our curriculum on coastal and terrestrial ecosystems, environmental footprint, challenge activities and games, hikes, kayaking, snorkeling, and sustainable living education.

  Qualifications:
We like volunteers to have some experience teaching about the environment, working with kids, and they should have a CPR and First Aid Certification.
  Commitment Required:
Ranges from 2-4 days a week to several hours a week.

Internship Opportunities

Ocean Futures Society Internship Program
  Description:
Our Internships are usually in coordination with UCSB Environmental Studies Department Internship program, however, we do accept individuals with the proper qualifications. Interns are expected to complete specific projects that can range from curriculum development and enhancement, working with students in our Ambassadors of the Environment Program, to working on various media and research projects at Ocean Futures Society.

For use on site: We have Power Point Presentations that can be presented by our staff to any school or group. These presentations include: Ambassadors of the Environment Program, Kelp Forest, Coral City, Marine Animals, Cosmic Eco. The fee is $75.

Service Fee:
Fees for the Ambassadors of the Environment Program are based on size of group and length of stay.

General Services:
Our Ambassadors of the Environment Program takes place at El Capitan Canyon Ranch Campground.
