Non-Profit

Mission:
The Morro Bay National Estuary Program is a local non-profit organization that works with the local community to improve the health of Morro Bay estuary. In 1995, the program obtained the distinction of becoming a part of the National Estuary Program under the USEPA.
The MBNEP recently reached a major milestone with the completion of the Morro Bay Comprehensive Conservation and Management Plan (CCMP). Completion of this document was a multi-year process that included a large characterization study, definition of the seven priority problems and a blueprint of how to tackle these issues to improve and preserve the health of the estuary.
The major programs of the MBNEP include scientific monitoring of water quality and general health of the watershed and estuary, administering two grant programs, public education via attendance at local events, an Estuary Exhibit and Learning Center and literature.
