Organization Type:
Non-Profit
Mission:
Earth Island Institute (EII) was founded in 1982 by veteran environmentalist David R. Brower to foster the efforts of creative individuals on critical ecological issues. Unique within the environmental community, EII incubates diverse new initiates and provides a support system for on-going projects. As an alternative to dozens of separate non-profits, each duplicating basic administrative functions, Earth Island’s network of projects shares central resources and benefits from the synergetic exchange of experience, ideas, and energy. EII has been widely recognized for its unique organizational model that “reduces, reuses, and recycles” resources, freeing individual projects to communicate with their constituencies and to respond quickly to evolving challenges.
