Defend The Bay was formed to protect Newport Bay, public areas, and the health of the people who enjoy these irreplaceable natural resources. With the tremendous amount of growth taking place in Orange County, it is more important than ever to monitor the Newport Bay Watershed. Any form of degradation or detrimental influence occurring within this 154 square mile area directly affects the water quality in the bay. Defend The Bay works diligently to preserve and restore this precious ecosystem for the people of today and the generations of tomorrow.

Internship Opportunities

  Description:
Students will participate in an extensive monitoring program that includes research projects, investigative reporting, photographic documentation of polluters, evaluating development projects within the watershed and water quality sampling. In addition, students will take part in a collaborative education program.

Students must have a genuine interest in working with environmental problems and solutions. Interns must also be dependable, reliable, organized and professional. Good research and writing skills are essential; basic computer skills are helpful as well.
