Speaker/Lecture Series:
We have an active docent and outreach program which conducts various presentations on the Bolsa Chica Wetlands at schools, universities, environmental organizations and other specialized groups.

Education Programs:
Free public tour of the Bolsa Chica Wetlands the first Saturday of every month; private docent-led tours of the Bolsa Chica Wetlands all year long, every day of the week, by reservation; General Meetings which include one or more guest speakers; on-site and off-site presentations discussing the wetlands for various schools and organizations; participation in various environmental celebrations in Orange and Los Angeles County.

Educator’s Guide to the Bolsa Chica Wetlands; Group Tours of the Bolsa Chica Reserve; Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve Trail Guide; "Wonderful Wetlands", a Pictorial Tour of the Bolsa Chica Wetlands, our newsletter "The Tern Tide" which is sent to all our members and available to the public (also posted on our website); “Current Tide”, our e-mail newsletter of late-breaking news; our website also has explanations of the wetland’s recent restoration, a science page, a Q&A page, a history page, and various political updates on the wetlands. We have a video on the wetlands for sale as well as an oral history of Bolsa Chica for sale.

Group Size Accommodated:
Up to 70 for reserved tours, no limit for the first Saturday public tours

In-Service Training:
Docents/Volunteers, General Public:
We conduct our own docent training at least once per year for those who want to lead our private docent-led tours or participate in other educational programs. We have our own training manual and the course has been taken by other docents from other Bolsa Chica organizations. We educate the general public with our tours and on-site presentations.

Docent
  Description:
Lead groups on tours of the Bolsa Chica Wetlands. Station topics include Bolsa Chica History, Restoration, Birds, Endangered Species and Ecology.
Give off-site Slide or Power Point programs to organizations and schools.
Work booths at various events.

  Qualifications:
Must be members of Amigos de Bolsa Chica and attend our docent training program
  Commitment Required:
We ask the docents to be available for at least one tour or other event per month; for our teachers, we ask them to be available for at least one tour a month in the summer

Service Fee:
For our private tours, we ask for a $1/person with a minimum of $25. First Saturday tours are free but donations are appreciated.

General Services:
At the wetlands, there are portable toilets. Our docents have cell phones in case of emergency. We sell merchandise at our public tours.

Public Transit Access:
Unfortunately there is no public transit access to the wetlands from where we conduct our tours (off of PCH and across the street from the main entrance to Bolsa Chica State Beach), however there is a stop at the corner of PCH/Warner.

Disabled Access:
Most trails are ADA compliant (gravel).
