Features of Adopt-A-Watershed:

  • Hands-on activities and project-oriented lessons enable students to apply science concepts to the local watershed.
  • Units are appropriate to the science curriculum for each grade level and include cross curriculum connections with subjects such as art, language arts, math, and social science.
  • Students directly apply concepts learned in the classroom by engaging in watershed monitoring projects using standard research techniques.
  • Studies are repeated at specified grade levels so that data entered in computer databases can be compared and changes recognized.
  • Restoration projects enable students to develop a sense of stewardship
  • Community action/public education projects encourage students to communicate what has been learned about their watershed to their community.
  • Reflection activities enhance students' awareness of the watershed and stimulate their ability to process what has been learned.
