Tips for Your Coastal Cleanup Day Video Clips Project
We are looking for short video clips of Coastal Cleanup Day this year. The Coastal Commission
is going to edit the clips to put together a "day in the life" style documentary about
Coastal Cleanup Day and the way it is experienced around the state, showing the wide range
of landscapes and sites where the event takes place.
Each clip (of a topic) should be no more than 2 to 3 minutes in length.
Tips:
- If using a smartphone, film in landscape mode (holding phone sideways) versus portrait.
- No clip may be more than 2G.
- You can use your smartphone headset microphone to improve audio (assuming you are
standing close to the sound you want to record so the cord will reach!)
Some ideas for Possible Topics to Film:
Set up shots
- Before (dirty beach) and after (clean beach) video of your beach or shoreline
location with sound and context, such as where you are, how long this site has been part
of Coastal Cleanup Day, what are the major problems at your site, or similar topics.
- Shot of a sign with name of site if there is one
The Process
- People arriving
- Participants checking in at Check-in table and getting cleanup materials
- Participants walking around with bags/buckets picking up trash (this could include
a question for a few people - what are you doing, why are you here, how does it feel
to participate in the event? etc.)
- Participants finding unusual items
- Trash being weighed in
- Piles of trash bags or debris, shots of dumpsters or garbage trucks
Other things to shoot
- Special happenings after the Cleanup (barbeques, raffles, etc.)
- Media with cameras shooting or interviews occurring
