Welcome to the Plant Pages, where you will find an introduction to 25 common plants of Upper Newport Bay. This is a product of a dedicated and talented volunteer, Don Millar, who photographed plants for over three years to capture the blooms and seeds during their season. The pictures and descriptions should help you recognize the plants you will encounter during restoration projects and on outings in this habitat. Bladderpod (Isomeris arborea)

Plant: A shrub from 3 to 10 feet high, widely branched with hard, yellow wood and a characteristic disagreeable smell to the leaf and blossom. Common.
Leaf: The leaves are narrow, 1/2 to 1-3/8 inch long and 1/4 as wide, with a sharp point. They are arranged in threes, alternating on each side of the stem.
Flowers: The flowers are yellow and are grouped in bunches at the ends of the branches.
Seeds: The seed pod is a large, prominent capsule 1 to 2 inches long, drooping on long stalks.
